COVID-19

March 2020

In response to the continuing spread of COVID-19 throughout the United States and the globe, OpenWorld Relief is utilizing its network, experience, and logistical partnerships to participate in the response in several key locations. We have selected these project sites and will continue to add sites based on the viral impact, community impact, feasibility, and financial capability.

Through this process and projects we seek to meet immediate needs of the community now while developing projects that will have a lasting impact moving forward. OpenWorld Relief has focused on three core project types to fulfill these goals including; Food Scarcity, Personal Protective Equipment, and Community Resource Access. All of these project categories have been developed for implementation at the community level with local stakeholders, makers, and volunteers in order to best suit the communities needs directly. Additionally, during development and expansion we have focused a team to ensure that the foundational elements are effective, efficient, scaleable, and sustainable with the purpose being simplicity to expand them to other communities throughout the OpenWorld and Partner networks throughout the United States and Caribbean.

DONATIONS: If you choose to donate to a specific region as more come online, please add a note with your donation stating it is intended for a given project (ex: Food Scarcity) or Region (ex: Broward Cty.)

Food Scarcity

We've deployed two components of our food scarcity program, including micro-pantries, which are a sustainable community sharing food resource that incorporate "Take what you need, leave what you can," and direct home delivery, utilizing volunteer drivers to make food and hygiene product drops to individuals unable to leave quarantine.

Protection

We've worked with our medical director and advisory board to deploy a variety of masks and face coverings based on the user group to which we deliver, in accordance with CDC and WHO guidelines. Types include N95, KN95, N95 (youth), and handmade facial coverings produced by our volunteer groups and designed using CDC-approved templates.

Community Resources

We've determined a serious need to streamline access to public and private resources to those impacted by physical health and mental health issues and the financial and social impacts of COVID-19. To do this we've spent hundreds of hours aggregating resources and compiling information to push out in our social media community groups.
